Club Championships
RULES
The Laws of the Sport of Bowls and Bowls Victoria Rules for Competition will be strictly adhered to for all events.
MATCH ORGANISER
An organiser’s name is to appear on the draw sheet for each event. Inquiries are to be directed to that person or, in their absence, contact the Chairperson of the Match Committee. At the Match Committee’s discretion, it may cancel an event if it is considered there are insufficient entries.
Minimum entries for competitions are as follows:
Singles, Minor, 100 Up, 21 Up – 8 players. Concession may be made to Ladies Singles to enable pathway through to Yarra Region Champion of Champions.
Pairs, Triples and Fours – 4 teams.
ENTRY FEES
Entry fees for Club Championship matches for the 2024-2025 season are set at $8 per player per event entered.
Entry fees must be paid before any entry is accepted.
HANDICAPS
Open Vice-President’s Handicap – ‘100 UP’
Members are to be advised of handicaps before the start of play on the Match Committee notice board.
Players are advised that all handicaps are to be scored off before a positive score is shown.
SUBSTITUTES
All substitutes must be approved by the Match Committee BEFORE play. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the game.
Where a substitute is approved, they will have been chosen from all available eligible players whose playing ability should not be taken into account.
An eligible player is a MEMBER who could have been included in the original team or side and is not a player who has already entered that particular competition.
NOTE: Substitutes are unable to skip.
MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS
All rounds including finals are to be played by the day nominated. Players should ensure that they are available to play on the round 1 date nominated for each competition.
The Men’s and Ladies Singles finals are required to be played on a specified date unless the players and the Match Committee agree on a date that allows both finals to be played concurrently.
Unless exceptional circumstances exist (as noted within Bowls Australia Rules) and/or agreement cannot be reached on a mutually agreed day, then the nominated day will be enforced.
Should a team player not be available on the day nominated then a substitute needs to be arranged. Any disputes are to be referred to the Match Committee whose decision will be final.
Any deferment of the nominated day will not be granted simply because someone is unavailable or away. Without a valid excuse, players who cannot play/arrange a substitute where appropriate by or on the nominated day, will forfeit.
Bowls Victoria pennant competition will take precedence over Club Championship dates. The Match Committee will re-arrange dates as required in these circumstances.
MARKERS
Players are responsible for obtaining Markers for all Singles Championship rounds except for the final. If you experience difficulties, please contact the Match Committee. As a matter of courtesy, losing players should make themselves available as a Marker for the next round.
MINOR CHAMPIONSHIPS ELIGIBILITY
Open to any male or female member of Greensborough Bowling Club who has not won a Singles Club Championship event at this or any other club.
DRESS
Club Singles Championship finals will be played in UNIFORM. Dress for all events will be as per Club Dress Rules.
SELECTION OF GREENS
Players or teams will toss for selection of the playing green. The winner will select the green and the loser will select the rink to be played on. As normal, there will be a toss for selection of who takes the mat.
